Information: I was one of the lucky guys who got a new Gamma from my dealer. Thanks to Guenter, who did not try to keep me away from this model (he knew I''m a touring driver who likes to enjoy landscape during the ride. But this is not easy to do on a 500 Gamma). After a large revision at 60.000 km in 1996 with new crankshafts, pistons, in fact nearly every rotating part had to be renewed I decided to purchase a DR 750 for our holiday tours. But the Gamma ran absolutely faboulus again.
In the late 80s - looong ago - I had weeks and weeks of time to spend on holidays, so I took my bike to drive across the south of europe for at least three times per year.
Another notice: 1988, two days after buying the Gamma my pal and me adapted a Givi luggage system, which was of course not available for the 500 Gamma. Am I the only one who abused a this bike for touring? You may think this was risky. No problem for the chassis, it was stabile enough, even for two persons with a tent and other things! I never had problems with the Gamma on holidays - apart from the fuel consumption of course. But today it''s a great advantage to know every gas station in france and spain:-)
My great mistake was to sell the bike in urgent need of money. The bike had more than 86.000 kilometers when I gave it away.
