Information: This is my 1988 Suzuki DR125 SJ. When i got it, it looked nothing like this. how it looks now is the result of far too much money being spent on it! When i first bought it, it rattled like a pig - the result of it being run with no oil for a while... god only know why i still bought it. anyway, i rode it for a bit, completely standard, then, when i was out for a blast, it dropped a valve, causing the back wheel to lock up, and threw me down the road... oh ------. so i stripped it down, and found that it had completely eaten it insides. the exhaust valve was melted shut, the inlet valve was in the cylinder, on top of the piston, but i never found the stem... and the piston has a hole in it. plus the millions of little bits of ali and steel which i found everywhere (including in the carb, and air filter). so i rebuilt it, with a donor bike, it didnt rattle, but it was still far too slow. so me and my friend decided to tune it a bit. Now, DRs start with 11BHP, and are SOOOOOOO slow. it wouldnt even pull 6th gear! it wouldnt pull away with someone on the back, and it wouldnt wheelie. even when me and my mate sat on the mudguard, revved it full and dumped the clutch, it just died! so i decided i had to double the BHP. i started with a micron can and header, then i put a pair of tights on the air filter (i couldnt afford a K&N), and i jetted it up to 107.5. this should have made it fast, but it wasnt to be. so my mates step dad ported it... it made it sound different, but it didnt really make it much faster! how can it not be fast? I put a nitrous oxide kit on it (no, really), which made it a bit faster but not very. So i have decided that DR125s are un-tunable, and just swallow up money but dont go fast. IT ONLY DID 55MPH!!!! (AFTER I TUNED IT!) so never get a DR125... (Or any suzuki for that matter...) if anyone else has had a DR125 SJ, of a similar year, which was fast, then please contact me and tell me how you did it! cheers
