Info: A bike shop in Parramatta had a ZL1000 in Australia´s only factory colour choice for this model (Cosmic Galaxy Blue) and when I first saw this one I just had to have one like it (this one was advertised at AUD$8,500 with 24,114km on it).
The roughy at the wreckers (ADR compliance 1/88 model, most likely built in late ´87) is how I found mine in mid 2003 however someone beat me to it and I didn

Info: Actually it´s a May ´83 VF400F.
This bike had 71,000km on it when I bought it and contrary to reputation of the early VF´s top end issues, it ran sweet, silky smooth (once I balanced the carbs) and was the best fun on twisty roads (Putty Road and the like). The ventilated cast iron brakes both ends where also fantastic and being enclosed was no more a hassle than exposed discs.

Info: An August ´80 model basket case found at a garage sale with brand new tyres (one still wrapped in tar paper) for the sum of AUD$50.00.
Although it vibrated a bit (180degree crank with no balance shaft) it sounded great and was ever reliable (read cheap) daily transport to work (44km round trip).

Info: Feb ´94 model and I know why these things haven´t changed since the late ´80s. I´ve done 6.5hr trips on this two-up with my son on the back and the Givi full. One of these trips was in a thunder storm at night pissing down rain for a couple hundred kms. All of the gear in the Givi was bone dry and I couldn´t recommend these more highly. Info: Found this (DOM 12/91) in a dealers shop for $900 (AUD) and it had six months rego still on it. It also had half the rubber, new xring chain and sprockets, new brake discs and pads and a full tank of gas to boot.
I offered $750 and he said "just make it an even $700.00 and we''ll call it a deal". "Sold" said I.

1996 Suzuki RF 900

Info: This was my brother''s 9/94 Limited Edition model (No32) done in Candy Lime Green (two pack PPG Deltron KAW.8n) and Silver. The green came out of the same can as was used on my ZL1000. Not a bad result and certainly better looking than the LE dark green. It was unfortunate to have to loose the original LE colour but it really was in bad shape.
