Information: I bought this Vespa brand new in October 1999; it had the same serious engine problems twice - at 10K Km and 25K Km - the variator plate got loose thus ruining the crankcase teeth. I spoke to an old time school friend of mine who is now a motorcycle mechanic and comes out that all Piaggio scooter models have been having this problem since 1997 up until 2001, and the solution is just f***** plain simple, just add a spacer washer! How can a brand be so irresponsable to not do anything other just sit put and silent continuing to sell bikes worldwide has nothing happened?! Sorry for the sad comment. Still on the negative side:
The high end speed is incredible low even for a 125 4 stroke engine, and if compared to other scooter on the same category - 95 Km/h... The chassis is due to rust because of the inexistent rust protection.
Other than that, the brake are really good, the handling is great (a bit whobly at high speed, nothing serious, just need to adapt), it´s quite nippy running in between downtown rush hour, and its driving is really safe. I love the style and the space options (under seat storage for one full face helmet, back rack, and between legs room) are tremendous, I also added a trailer in order to carry my windsurfing quiver.
It has about 55K Km on the logmeter and it´s running great apart from burning some oil.
The fuel consumption is exactaly 3.3 L per 100 Km no mater if you go hard on the throttle or roll it smoothly.
