The one that got away! C&J framed '79 Honda XR500 Built by a former factory Honda mechanic, this bike oozed trick parts, like magnesium triple clamps and Ti fasteners. The forks are period works parts, with a very early and crude cartridge damping set-up. The tank is works RC250 alloy, straight off the MX team bikes. The engine has been worked over and is quite fast.....not quick like a new 450, but fast in an old school way with a top speed in the 90's with standard gearing. I raced this bike quite a bit in vintage MX and in D-37 GP's in the mid to late 90's, other than that it has no race history. It was simply built up from left over parts at the end of the season. Similar bikes were campaigned by team Honda in Baja and at the Four Stroke Nat's of the era. This pic is from the current owner, as I wasn't smart enough to not sell it.
